Apps and websites

 

Here are a list of apps and websites that I have designed and developed for the English Language dept at Glasgow University. The websites focus on Phonetics which is the study and classification of speech sounds. The field of phonetics is a multilayered subject of linguistics that focuses on speech. At the moment I am exploring new ideas and resources on how Phonetics can be used for students in the study of speech and sound through interactive IPA symbols as well as coming up with new useful teaching interfaces for websites and apps.

 

Sounds of the city
The Sounds of the City project at Glasgow University looks into speech sounds of Glasgow past and present.

 

Seeing Speech
The Seeing Speech project at Glasgow University and Queen Margaret University is an online resource that provides teachers and students of Practical Phonetics with ultrasound tongue imaging (UTI) video of speech, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) video of speech and 2D midsagittal head animations based on MRI and UTI data.

 

Dynamic Dialects
Dynamic Dialects project at Glasgow University and Queen Margaret University is an accent database, containing an articulatory video-based corpus of speech samples from world-wide accents of English.
